# The Alchemist Author: [[Paulo Coelho]] ## Review Unfortunately this did not live up to my expectations. Its possible that I had built my hopes too high based on the raving recommendations of a few people, expecting the book to touch me on a spiritual level. It's a story of a boy who has a vision of finding a treasure. The world is conspiring to bring him closer to fulfilling his personal legend (finding the treasure) if only he listens to the language of the world, expressed through omens. Everyone has a personal legend to fulfill if they have the courage to go chase it. Your intuition allows you to pick up on hints, omens, that lead you to your goal. I buy into the idea that paying attention to the nuances of life helps us understand how the world works, allowing every person to find a time and place to succeed. I was just disappointed in the story and the writing, and the lack of emotional connection to such a, supposedly, spiritual story.
