## Review
I initially did not like the species chosen for the new civilization used in the story. I had to overcome my prejudice against the plot device. Over the course of the book though, it became very obvious how awesome that aspect of it was.
The story is engrossing. I read fiction at night, and with this book I found myself still awake at one in the morning unable to put it away. The last time that happened was with Dune.
In many ways the book is similar to Dune. By providing a contrast between two entirely different civilizations we can see aspects of society in a new way. Religion, science, technology, language and sociology are all explored. The one aspect of society that was not covered was finance and economics.
The book also explored some of the worst aspects of humanity. There are a few sections that really caused me to think about the things we take for granted. That kind of emotional reaction in response to fiction is rare for me.
I highly recommend this book to macro scifi lovers. People who like Dune and Foundation will love this because of the long run and large scale story lines.
