# A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet
Author: [[Becky Chambers]]
## Review
The creatively constructed cultures of different species, their interactions, and the method of space travel make this book stand out. The themes of the book center around the interactions between the different cultures, what it means to be sentient and collective-action problems.
Interspecies relationships are the most interesting part of the story. Characters struggle to deal with the belief systems and cultures of other sentient beings. Because there is such a stark difference between a lizard person and human it makes sense that different species need to be cautious of how they interpret and interact with one another. The topic of respect and tolerance recur throughout the story.
The book focuses more on social aspects than technology or science. It is a feel good story that (mostly) avoids the dystopian and apocalyptic themes that plague fiction nowadays.
