# Get our of your mind and into your life Author: ## Review This was a workbook style book with exercises to help the reader understand and practice the concepts behind acceptance and commitment therapy. It was a difficult listen because of the exercises, so this might be better to read via text rather than audiobook. It had moments that were very interesting and which really did help me work through some emotional and mental problems. As I was listening to the ideas of the author around the concept "you are not your thoughts" I had this insight that the mind is a thought generating machine. Some of my best ideas were random thoughts created by my mind (for whatever reason). It just so happens that it also generates ideas that are not so stellar, even destructive. Once I realized that creating thoughts was the mind's job (through trial and error and seeing what sticks?) it became easier to forgive myself for thoughts that are angry, fearful, etc., and to dismiss your thoughts (with gratitude towards your mind for doing its job). Many of the key messages are similar to concepts from mindfulness, with the caveat that I don't know much about that either. I think the book has very useful content but not exactly exciting. ## Key Ideas ## Related
