# The Laws of Medicine Author: [[Siddhartha Mukherjee]] I was looking for something different to read and stumbled across the most unexpected book about investing. The author is a widely known physician and medical researcher. In the early years of his career he becomes frustrated with the abundance of medical information but no guiding principles for how to use it. He determined that practicing medicine comes down to making perfect decision with imperfect information, so he created three laws for practicing medicine. I have interpreted these in the context of my lenses of analysis and decision making: - The first law is to think in conditional probabilities. Make decisions in the context of all the information you have, and use intuition in interpreting information. - The second law is to pay attention to nuances and the exceptions to the rule. These will guide you to understanding a better model of reality. - The third law is to question beliefs and require evidence for assumptions. Conclusions can often be overgeneralized. ##### Related - [[Medicine]] - He effectively discusses how to analyze a situation, create a model or understanding, that lets you make good decisions with limited resources or information. This is the point of my [[Framework for analysis and decision-making]] research.
