[[History]] , [[Geopolitics]], [[Geography]], [[Maps]], [[Visualisation]] A visualisation of the worlds borders in the shape of a world map, that can be rolled backwards or forwards through time. It would be interative allowing you to hover over the area of the map which would provide background and explanation of the country that occupies that territory. Besides the interesting informative value, having the systematized data would allow us to do interesting research such as: - Overlaying climatic elements onto the map showing the rise and fall of empires as it relates to climate. - It would give us an empirical estimate of size of empires and how quickly they are changing, through the rate at which borders are changing. - We could also test the metaethnic frontier theory more thoroughly. You could also do something similar for the economy over time by showing the interconnectedness of various industries over time and how money/resources flow through the economy.
