- Chemicals associated with plasticity resulting from one task will create a global state that help you learn anything for an hour (?) afterwards. - Young people can learn passively and can learn quickly - Adults can have plasticity but it is more difficult - Need to be in a good state: clear, calm and focused. not too stressed, alert or tired. "moving up and down the autonomic arc" - Double inhale exhale can reduce stress, anxiety, or alertness by offloading CO2. - Can also reduce alertness by going to panoramic vision, to get out of high focus tunnel vision. - breathing fast can increase alertness. - non-sleep rest (meditation, hypnosis) - a few things trigger plasticity 1. making mistakes increases the chemicals that allow for plasticity (frustration), keep these sessions short (10-30mins) within the 90m focus cycle. 2. urgency and need increases the amount of plasticity 3. attach enjoyment to the process of making errors 4. Errors in balance also activate a neurochemical state of learning and plasticity, as the brain needs to relearn orientation. This state is global and helps all learning. The more novel a behaviour is (with respect to your relationship to gravity/balance) the more we can activate the learning state. - Yoga, handstands, gymnastics, road biking. - There is a question how much of reduced adult learning is the result of reduced movement, and repetitive activities, whereas kids regularly engage in the 4 activities that create the global learning state. - [[Andrew Huberman Podcast]]
